BURDEN OF BARRENNESS

Vinita got the tests done & it was the same old story again, it’s all fine with her, it was Upendra who possibly had low sperm count. To determine exactly the difference between his sperm count & the actual count, he needs to get certain tests done. But whenever this topic comes up at home, he turned a deaf ear towards it.

Why men can’t accept anything lacking or wrong in them. A biological defect as critical as   x-x or y-y chromosomes or even the low sperm count or ovary count, is also blamed on the female species. Modern man now stuck in his orthodox & chauvinistic cobweb has come to this self assessment that barrenness is a woman’s forte.

Name Plate: (Upendra Chadha)
                     (Vinita Chadha)

Its been 5 years since they are married and still no hopes of parental bliss

KNOCK KNOCK

(Vinita open the door)

Upendra – “You bloody woman, what took you so long to open the door. You filthy bitch do you even now the amount of sweat & blood I put into my work?”

(Turning to another man standing next to him)

“Surya Kant, please come inside. I am sorry you had to witness all this nonsense family gaga. I tell you this women is such a pain in the arse, anyways you make yourself comfortable & I will go freshen-up”

“Vinita get water for Surya”
(Upendra goes in the bedroom to freshen-up while Vinita gets busy in preparing tea & snacks for the two men)

Surya Kant - “You have a nice house. Vinita has kept it very clean & well organized. But, mate the picture would change when a baby would be embraced into your lives, taking away all your attention towards him or her, turning you into this undefeatable task master. By the way it’s been 5 years since you got married, when do we get to eat the sweets of you both becoming proud parents?”

Upendra (frowning) – “I am not as lucky as you Surya. Doctor has said we can’t become Parents”

Surya Kant – “Have you consulted any Gynaecologist?”

Upendra – “Yes, we have consulted the best Gynaecologists in Delhi however there seems no hope. We even got tests done & Vinita’s report is all fine”

Surya Kant – “Why don’t you also get your tests done, sperm count or whatever is required?”

Upendra – “There is nothing wrong with me. Come-on you are also a man, you should know we are born error-free. Anyways, all this is not important now, it’s better we complete the presentation for tomorrow’s annual review meet”

(Turns on his Laptop & yells at Vinita to get tea & snacks)

(In the kitchen, Vinita was listening to the entire conversation, wondering if the sins of any particular past life of hers haunting now. Is it my karma or am I born to experience
deja-vu situation always in my marital life? Engrossed in her thoughts, watching the tea boil, she suddenly realizes tears rolling down her cheeks & few drops fall into the tea. Normally, she would have made a fresh one again; however considering her current state of mind, wrath & agony, she serves the same tea to her husband & his colleague)
